my husband bought it for my birthday.We have both enjoyed this vehicle for the last two years.It shifts like no other.It has been a third car so always kept clean, freshly serviced etc.During this time we have had new discs all round, new pads, four new wheels, four new tyres, new track rod ends, new stabiliser mounting brackets, no expense spared servicing, synthetic oil every few thousand etc.We have just had the gearshift linkage also lubricated and adjusted. Drives very well. Oil changed last week. Fully stamped service book. MOT til summer. No problems with the car.The original 17" Brabus wheels, although stylish, where real boneshakers and we sold them on ebay to someone in the far east - no doubt he is currently crashing around the streets of Taiwan on them.We put 16" brabus wheels on, still low pofile tyres (45 profile) pirelli P zeros which look fantastic, but more importantly, make the car DRIVEABLE and SMOOTH, not something the 17" can really claim, unless on a racetrack.The condition of the car is altogether very good.There has been some paintwork on the o/s/r quarter before we got it, and you can tell if you get down on your hands and knees and know where to look.That`s it. We are buying another house and need to convert it back into five grand towards the deposit.MAYBE we will get one again. They are so much fun, so nippy, unbelieveably good on the motorway, really come into their stride at autobahn speeds, yet quite happy on the school run!No doubt if you are interested in these, you will have done your research, but if not, go on youtube and see the crazy speeds these thigs can do. Smart Forfour (Smart are part of Mercedes) 04 Reg (23/9/2004) Diesel (super economical) Passion (top spec) 5 door 1.5 CDi (68bhp) Passion in silver Road tax £90 a year! 66,000 miles (but being used daily so will go up) Full service history and all paper work & receipts Next service in 11,500 miles! MOT till Feb 2012 (last one had no advisories) Owned for nearly 3 years with only 2 previous owners. Immaculate inside and outside, lady owner (my wife), non smoking, no animals and always garaged. As most of the bodywork is plastic there will never be any rust or bad dints etc. Kit includes:- Panoramic full glass roof with blind. Not to be confused with your normal sunroof. This one is larger and is fantastic in the summer. See photos. CD/radio Air con Power front windows Remote central locking(with get you home lights, press the close button twice the full beam comes on for a while to allow you to walk up the drive etc at night. Also handy when looking for your car in the car park!). Rear seat moves back wards to give more leg room for rear passengers, or forward to give more space in the boot! Alloy wheels (with 2 new front tyres) Open to offers but not in a hurry to sell so will not take anything silly. Advertised locally for slightly less so can be withdrawn at any time. Key things to know before you buy any Smart Forfour (as on various web sites/reviews/forums) 1) Best spec is Passion (this is) 2) Avoid automatic or semi automatic (this one is manual) 3) Make sure it has full service history (this has full history) 4) Diesel are the best handling/most economical in the Smart Forfour range (this one is diesel) These car are now getting really really hard to find. Around 8 diesels for sale at the moment in the whole country (check on auto trader and ebay). People are holding onto them due to the great economy (upto 65mpg!) and reliability. Also compared to a Golf or Mini of similar age you get so much more for your money and it drives better than a Golf in my opinion. Smart are part of Mercedes so they are extremely reliable. So why am I selling? Another baby forces extremely reluctant sale. Please note this is the best spec (Passion in a manual) and totally original with no silly wheels or upgrades etc. It took me 10 months to find this one so really sad to see it go. Had it since March 2009 and its been a dream car with no issues. Seen these cars selling for nearly £5000 Not wanting anywhere near this. You don`t rev it hard to extract paA Smart car with 177bhp - that is some considerable way away from how the Smart idea was conceived, given that the original microcar model came with just 45bhp. But in parallel with the history of its Mini rival, the march of reality eventually renders the original concept nothing more than a signpost and a gene pool.Still, 177bhp is a lot, even for the four-door, normal-size supermini interpretation of Smart`s brand values, the Forfour. For this we can thank German tuning company and official Smart souper-upper Brabus, the long-time purveyor of powerful Benzes and run by Bodo Buschmann in Bottrop (he`s the "bus" in Brabus).It makes sense. The Forfour is aimed at people of youthful outlook and above-average co-ordinatory skills. These are people who may well have some sort of active lifestyle, even if, like mine, it exists mainly in the head. The Forfour is meant to be a cool, fun car; a German take on the role that the Mini (British-inspired and built, albeit by a German company) plays so well.Yet for all its visual funkiness, a regular Forfour is a curiously inert drive. You don`t tease it through fast corners with a smidge of steering and a balance of power; you just aim, assume and think about something else. The Brabus is intriguingly, refreshingly different. This is a hot hatchback with the temperament the best hot hatches used to have when we zoomed around in Peugeot 205 GTIs, Renault 5 GT Turbos and 16-valve Golf GTIs: sharp and punchy and not embarrassed to scrabble and tug at the front when there`s a momentary excess of power over grip. Cars in which you, not they, set the limits are always the most fun, and it sounds a bit boomy and agitated if you do; better to change up sooner and land right back in the next gear`s vat of energy. I`m driving it along, and up and down, the roads that make up the auto playground of the Alpes-Maritimes - roads with fast sweeps and tight hairpins that bring speeds right down before you can feed the engine again. A car with a poor low-speed response will be scuppered here, but the Brabus pulls out of the vicious bends with enthusiasm.But something strange is happening on these power-fuelled turns. All that torque, that muscular thrust, is opposing the front wheels` natural tendency to want to straighten up, applying odd forces within the steering system. The steering wheel is "freezing" in my hands, so I have to apply effort to straighten it. This sounds unnerving, and it shouldn`t happen, but it`s not dangerous and it`s easy to cope with once you`re aware of its imminence. In a strange and welcome way, what is really a dynamic flaw adds the character that comes from imperfection and eccentricity.And it`s all the more forgivable when you feel how firmly this fortissimo Forfour hangs on to the road, how little it leans in the corners, and how - unlike its softer siblings - it tightens its trajectory when you ease the power to let you point it into a tightening bend. The steering responds more quickly, too, thanks to a 10 per cent reduction in the steering ratio. Driving pleasure is made of such things; this is a car that lets you play with it instead of just operating it. If there`s a downside, it is that sharp ridges and jagged bits of road-maintenance backlog can cause quite a thump, although the ride is otherwise calm enough.So the Forfour Brabus is fast. How fast? A lot faster than the Mitsubishi Colt CZT, whose basic engine it shares. The Colt is considerably cheaper than the Smart`s estimated £17,000 (which sounds a lot until you realise it`s an entirely typical price for a Mini Cooper S by the time you`ve added a typical sprinkling of options, most of which the Smart has as standard), but the Colt manages 150bhp and a 7.8-second 0-60mph time. For the Smart, we`re talking an extra 27bhp and 6.8 seconds to 60.But there is a catch. To feel the full potential, you need to run the Smart on super unleaded petrol. Use normal unleaded, for which the Colt is calibrated, and you lose up to 14bhp on a hot day, when detonation is more likely to occur and the ignition timing is automatically retarded. It will also use more fuel, so it`s better to put up with the hefty price premium we suffer here in the UK for super unleaded, and enjoy the Smart at its most efficient.You`ve probably noticed that this Brabus-tuned machine sits quite low. A tape measure would quantify this as lowered by 30mm at the front and 28mm at the rear, and the suspension is firmer to suit, but there`s something odd about those 17-inch wheels. For possibly the first time in a front-wheel drive production car, the Forfour Brabus has fatter rear tyres than front ones. Is this misplaced go-faster visual vanity? Apparently not, says Berthold Franz, the head of engineering for the Smart-Brabus collaboration. It`s a trade-off between weight and grip, as required at each end.Does it work? You`d assume from the foregoing words that it does, but I can`t give a definitive answer because the car I drove was wearing four equal-size winter-tread tyres in case the Alpes-Maritimes were engulfed with snow (it had even settled on the beach at Nice the previous day). Given the Smart`s prowess even on these play-it-safe tyres, though, it`s unlikely that the correct footwear would make it any worse.So the dynamics are convincing. But buyers will want to advertise their cars` abilities to others, so the way it looks is also important. The changes are subtle: downwardly-extended sills and valances, a twin-pipe exhaust, mesh in the front grille and a rear spoiler which reduces aerodynamic lift at the back by 50kg at the 137mph top speed. Even at a less extreme pace, there`s enough extra force at the back to help keep the Smart stable if braking in a fast bend.Inside, there`s lots of leather with silver seams, and plentiful aluminium-look detailing. The steering wheel is a touch too complex and its lumps and bumps complicate the tactility, but, otherwise, the cabin is a podular-Smart as ever. And, being a Forfour, it has a sliding rear seat and plenty of space for a small car - much more than a Mini offers, for example. Maybe that will be its trump card - four doors without looking family-centred, yet pace and pleasure on a par with its quickest, highest-image rivals. The company he works for had bought it as an ex demo from the Smart Main Dealer. | The car has done 42000 miles (I have done just over 5000 of these and it has been 100% trouble free and reliable). | It is finished in Black and has a multi function steering wheel, on board computer, electric front windows, remote central locking, full panoramic glass roof with front and rear sunblinds and air conditioning. It is also fitted with the factory option of FULL COLOUR SATELLITE NAVIGATION which is exactly the same system as fitted to Mercedes and makes it a very rare find. | The car is very economical averaging around 45mpg in town and up to 50mpg on a run. | In all honesty the semi auto gearbox takes some getting used to but once you have the car is a joy to drive. I have never hesitated taking it a long distance as it is very comfortable and refined. | The back seat slides backwards and forwards to provide either more rear leg room or more boot space. | Generally the car is in very good condition there are a few age related scuffs, the mains ones on the front nearside bumper and the rear offside bumper (see photo`s) but these ar only minor and I have priced the car to reflect the condition.
