Selling on behalf of my Mother - This is her beloved Smart Car sadly for sale due to me providing her with grandchildren to taxi around!`Hewy` is a lovely ...> looking car in stunning white/silver and he has been cared for like a prized possession since bought new by one careful lady owner. It has covered 27000 very slow and cautious miles, stopping at lights regardless of their colour and taking up two spaces in supermarket car parks... just to be on the safe side.It has all the extras you would expect such as stop/start eco technology, air con, cd, power panoramic roof, alloys etc. It has full service history and has just been professionally valeted ready for the it`s new home. It is not due it`s first mot till May and the tax is due then too - though only £20 a year! It is mechanically 100% in all ways. The only minor thing to mention is that there was a chip in the windscreen which has been professionally repaired so is of no concern but I had to find something! It really is `as new` in all other respects and is open to any inspection - you will not find a better example. It can be viewed and test driven (subject to appropriate insurance) in Ringwood, Hampshire... just off the A31 between Bournemouth and Southampton.Sensible offers considered to a good home! Any questions please feel free to email and I shall likely respond within the hour. X

| | 2010 SMART FORTWO PASSION MHD AUTO WHITE .
| A great condition 2010 `10` Smart ForTwo Passion mhd petrol car for sale in Crystal White with silver Tridion cell. Car is registered Apr 2010 so has ...> balance of manufacturers warranty and SmartMove roadside assistance until Apr 2012. Body and panels are in superb condition, interior is unmarked and everything works. Has covered 17500 miles from new and we are the only owners having bought it brand new from Smart of Wolverhampton. It has had one service at that same dealership in Apr 2011 after it had covered 5000 miles. Next service is due at 18000miles and if sold at the buyitnow price, I will have the second service carried out at the Smart dealership prior to the buyer collecting. | Interior features a black cloth interior, Smart genuine floor mats, Pioneer navigation CD system (features bluetooth handsfree system and iPod/USB connection in glovebox), manual climate control system featuring air conditioning (there is a temperature range that you can select and the car automatically maintains the interior at that temperature) and a fixed panel transparent roof with retractable sunblind. | We have loved owning this car and most recently I have been using it on my 60 mile daily commute which takes in a range of roads from suburban through to motorway - achieving 55-60mpg from the efficient petrol engine makes driving long distances affordable as the price of fuel rockets upwards. Bridgestone tyres are fitted which have good tread depth and the alloy wheels are in great condition, no kerbing or marking. | The car has a fully automatic mode or you can override the car`s selection of gears and change up and down by pushing/pulling the gearstick selector. `mhd` means that the car has the start/stop system which is indicated by the `eco` light on the dashboard - when lit in green, if you have your foot on the brake and travelling less than 5mph the engine will cut out (e.g. if you stop at traffic lights, etc.) and will restart when you release the brake. You can switch the system off by flicking the `eco` button next to the gear selector. I find that it gives an increase of approx 2mpg depending on your journey profile. | Reason for sale is that we have just replaced the car with another brand new fortwo. Viewing can be arranged either in Burton On Trent or Northampton, or anywhere on the route in between - send me a message with your contact details and I will be happy to discuss and answer any questions that you might have. | X

MHD is Smart-talk for a stop/start system and stands for Micro Hybrid Drive. UK versions of the 61bhp and 71bhp Smart will have MHD from October 2008, while the punchier 84bhp and Brabus models will have it in 2009. Time for CAR to take one out for a traffic-jam test drive. How does the Smart Fortwo’s MHD stop/start work? Bigger stop/start systems like that in the A-class BlueEfficiency add a belt-driven starter-generator, but keep the conventional starter motor for cold starts. In the Smart, both the starter and alternator are replaced by the starter-generator. The system generates electricity to charge the battery when the driver is braking, and automatically cuts the engine when the speed drops below 8km/h (about 5mph). It then re-starts the engine when the driver releases the brakes. Have you ever tried to drive any of these micro cars over any traffic calming humps, Paris to Dakar must be less traumatic !! 02 September 2008 08:07 JohnnyBimmer says RE: Smart MHD micro-hybrid CAR review What criteria is the Smart Hybrid dumped in green then? Is green being alive or is green being dead? If green is small in size then eliminate buses. If green is small 'per vehicle' then some account must be taken for volumes which make the 3 units per year Bugatti Veyron 'green' and the 200,000 unit Smart a terrible strain on Earths resources. If green is smallest carbon footprint 'per person' then Al Gore, the Google founders, Un Gen Secretary and his helicopter over Antartica and his IPCC jet-set cronies with meetings Bali, Maldives, Vienna, Hazaii etc are all to be jailed first on hypocracy and un-greenes crimes against humanity. If green is being alive then the Smart fails to match a Mercedes S-Class on protecting its occupants. If green is sipping petrol at 50mpg then dump the Toyota Prius (real world 45mpg). What are CAR's rules on green then? 30 July 2008 14:16 resis says RE: Smart MHD micro-hybrid CAR review "And THERE goes the SMART MHD!" Oh how I miss Murray Walker......... 17 July 2008 22:53 AReader says RE: Smart MHD micro-hybrid CAR review Actually, the word is spelt "catapult", which is the only way to launch a SMART off the line smartly. As for Gordon Murray Walker, he really was the GOD of F1 commentary. His mate James Hunt understood how to max out meagre motoring money, exploiting his Austin A35 van like the man! 16 July 2008 22:37 Biram Desai says RE: Smart MHD micro-hybrid CAR review AReader thoroughly enjoyed your Polo story, I think a £500 Polo from the small ads would be the most fun and I will try it one day for sure. For me the original Polo, Scirocco, Golf etc only got worse with later designs and I do think car design has gone backwards in many ways. JB entertaining as always, but its capitalist not capatalist - but more importantly its Gordon Murray not Murry - sacrilege to spell the worlds greatest car designer's name wrong - its like spelling God wrong!!! :-) 16 July 2008 20:36 Show all comments Become a CAR contributor Upload stories, photos or videos direct to the site, or email newsdesk@carmagazine.co.uk. This car is for you. It's a standard petrol Smart fortwo, but equipped with stop-start technology that flicks the engine off when you stop at traffic lights and roudabouts. When you take your foot off the brake, the engine automatically powers up. The result is 64.2 miles per gallon for this Smart, compared to the 57.6 you'll wring out of the normal Fortwo cabrio. Driving any car that goes silent when you stop is guaranteed to spook you at first. The mhd is no different, as I discovered during a test-drive today. Fortunately, by the time your foot's come off the brake and is back on the accelerator, the engine is fully powered-up. Each time the engine splutters back to life, you feel and hear a reassuring judder. The system felt pretty familiar after 30 minutes of driving. One useful element is a display to the right of the steering wheel, which shows an orange icon when the engine is still warming up and isn't ready for stop-start. It jumps to a green when the engine's ready for stop-start. I found it mostly changed to green in less than a quarter of a mile, though the exact duration depends on the temperature. The green and orange icons are handy. The new Mercedes-Benz A Class' stop-start system, for example, doesn't have any such visual indicator of when the engine's ready -- you just have to wait for it to kick in. It's worth noting you can also manually switch off the Smart mhd's stop-start system with a button next to the gear stick (pictured below). I can't think of many occasions you'd want to turn it off, aside from when you're parallel parking into a tight spot. Stop-start really thrives if you're driving in town. Smart says it increases mpg by 13 per cent in urban areas, versus 8 per cent in mixed conditions. I'll admit there's nothing too exhiliarting about those figures and the technology, which has been around since 2004 on several car brands. Still, it will add up to decent fuel economy and cut your carbon footprint. The mhd has emissions of 105g/km CO2 versus the basic non-stop-start model's 116g/km CO2. Like previous Smart fortwos, this one's fun to drive. The Smart Mhd's just gone on sale in the UK from £7,060; get the lowdown via Smart's site. You might like these... Luckily for cheapskates like you and us, Smart has unveiled a new version of its iconic supermini that reduces the cost of car ownership while not harming the planet -- much. The Smart mhd, which we tested in this video, looks much like any 2009-model Smart Car. It uses Smart's new micro hybrid-drive technology, however, which switches the engine off as soon as you fall below a speed of 5mph under braking, and turns it back on again when you press the accelerator pedal. Smart says the mhd system can improve fuel economy by approximately 8 per cent in mixed driving conditions and up to 13 per cent in urban environments, making it ideal for heavy traffic. According to Smart, the 71bhp coupe model can achieve 65.7mpg. It also spews just 103g/km of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, versus the non stop-start model's 116g/km, which is good, but slightly too high to squeeze under the magic 100g/km marker that makes a car exempt from vehicle excise duty. In practice, the Smart mhd works well. The stop-start technology feels a little disconcerting to begin with, and the 1-litre diesel engine does sound a little unrefined at high revs, but the overall driving experience is an enjoyable one. Our fears about engine wear seem unfounded, too, since the car's starter motor has been replaced with an electrically operated drive belt that gets its power from the Smart mhd's regenerative braking system. The Smart mhd is by no means perfect. Its 0-60mph time of 13.3 seconds means all but the most apathetic of Sunday drivers will beat you off the lights, and the fact it only has two seats means most of your entourage will require their own transport. This aside, there's plenty of fun to be had. It's nippy in and around traffic, ridiculously easy to park, and the semi-automatic gearbox means you never have to worry about using a clutch. The Smart mhd is available now for £7,060. You can watch a video of the mhd system in action by clicking play in the video thumbnail above. Mercedes-Benz S 400 HYBRID and smart mhd recognised by Oko-Trend Posted by smart car UK at 21.12.2009 A vehicle from the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and a model from the smart range have been recognised in independent research from environmental institute Oko-Trend.The experts looked at areas including fuel consumption, exhaust emissions, noise and materials chosen for construction before making their assessments. It was decided that the Mercedes-Benz S 400 HYBRID and the smart mhd were each the most eco-friendly vehicles in the respective classes. The Mercedes-Benz S 400 HYBRID claimed the honours in the luxury class segment, buoyed by its combination of a six-cylinder petrol engine with a 20 horsepower electric motor, with the inclusion of an automatic start/stop function. This tool, which involves the engine being turned off when a vehicle comes to halt before automatically coming back to life when a driver takes his foot off the brake pedal, is also a feature of the smart mhd, which triumphed in the convertible/roadster category.According to the manufacturer, this system makes it possible for a motorist to make fuel savings of up to 20 per cent, particularly when the vehicle is being driven in city traffic.Meanwhile, this system has no hindrance on the comfort and performance expected of the model.Discover all the big benefits of the smart at thesmart.co.uk No related posts.
