Moving Forward Over the course of the last two years, Smart City Futures has co-hosted a number of events across the three Greater Manchester Universities which opened the doors to new ways of working between universities, businesses, communities and the public sector. The city prospectus ‘Open the Future’ showcased the enterprising work of these partnerships and put Greater Manchester on the map in terms of collaborative working. The New Conversation, which took place on the 23rd July 2009, was a coming together of these ideas and embraced the idea of co-creative approach between different stakeholder groups. The day was heralded as a success with participation at the core. Interactive discussions in the main auditorium were well received, as were more traditional group and face-to-face interaction and conversation. Four community and enterprise projects funded with seed monies from the New Conversation are going ahead independently of Smart City Futures, with again, the emphasis being on forging partnerships with different stakeholders.
